The Online Film Critics Society Celebrates The 100th Anniversary of Loews Cineplex

Loews Cineplex NEW YORK, February 17, 2004: The Online Film Critics Society, the international professional association on Internet film journalists, offers its congratulations to Loews Cineplex on its 100th anniversary in business.

The history of Loews is the history of the film exhibitor industry. Whether moviegoers were thrilling to The Great Train Robbery or The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Loews was there to provide the peerless venues for successive generations to enjoy the magic of the big screen.

"No other company has enjoyed a more profound effect on the world of motion pictures than Loews," says Phil Hall, contributing editor for Film Threat and member of the OFCS Governing Committee. "Loews was literally there at the beginning, even before anyone was making films in Hollywood. Every possible advancement and milestone in the cinema, from D.W. Griffith to Quentin Tarantino and all points in between, has taken place within the Loews theaters. We can only imagine what the next 100 years of Loews will be like!"

The Online Film Critics Society has been the key force in establishing and raising the standards for Internet-based film journalism. The 140-member OFCS spans the U.S., Canada, Europe, Latin America, Australia and Africa, with journalists representing many of the most important online news sites including Salon, Slate, TV Guide Online, Netflix, Film Threat, eFilmCritic.com, the Apollo Guide and the Internet Movie Database.

The Society's web site, which has been hosted since January 2001 by the highly influential film resource Rotten Tomatoes (rottentomatoes.com), provides the most comprehensive online listing of reviews and original interviews with the leading artists in today's cinema, plus links to the most important motion picture-related web sites.
